Police are searching for the suspect who shot a well-known Hollywood publicist five times before she crashed her Mercedes-Benz in a Beverly Hills neighborhood and died.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office identified the woman as Ronni Sue Chasen, a top Hollywood publicist.

The 64-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the chest before she crashed her black Mercedes-Benz at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, MyFoxLA.com reports.

A police statement said the woman was shot at Sunset Boulevard and Whittier Drive. Her Mercedes E350 then crashed into a lamp post.

No one else was found in the car with Chasen when police arrived on the scene. Chasen was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The Beverly Hills Police Department has so far declined to release the victim's name, saying "the investigation is in the preliminary stage and no further information is available at this time."

Police sources told FoxNews.com that authorities received information about gunshots fired in the area at approximately 12:28 a.m. Shortly after they arrived on scene, they found the crashed vehicle and a "lone female occupant."

Police Lt. Tony Lee said Tuesday that investigators don't have a motive for the killing and have not identified any suspects.

The longtime publicist, who worked on such films as "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Lolita," had reportedly attended the premiere of "Burlesque" earlier that night.

At the time of her death, Chasen was also working with 20th Century Fox on the Oscar campaign for Michael Douglas in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps," according to the trade publication Variety.

Chasen was founder of Chasen & Company Publicity based in Los Angeles.
